Pediatric physical therapy is about helping kids build the strength, flexibility, and movement skills they need to roll, crawl, climb, run, and join in on everyday activities with confidence. Sessions are designed to be playful, engaging, and tailored to each child’s unique needs—from infancy through adolescence. Our physical therapist also specializes in pediatric pelvic health, offering support for children experiencing bladder or bowel challenges such as bedwetting, daytime accidents, or constipation. Whether it’s learning to move with ease or gaining better control, we’re here to help kids thrive.
*Please note: we do not offer adult physical therapy services at this time.
Pediatric physical therapy sessions are typically designed to feel like play, keeping children engaged and motivated while they work on important skills. Activities may include:
- Playing on large exercise balls to build strength
- Running or hopping exercises to improve coordination
- Standing on one foot for stability and control
For children with incontinence issues, therapy may also involve animated biofeedback programs, bladder retraining exercises, pelvic floor muscle training, and patient/caregiver education.
Pediatric pelvic floor therapy addresses issues related to childhood urinary incontinence. This can be caused by underlying medical conditions (organic incontinence) or can occur without any associated abnormalities (functional incontinence). It may include nighttime bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) or daytime wetting (diurnal enuresis). Physical therapy can help children experiencing incontinence due to:
- Overactive bladder
- Infrequent voiding or small bladder capacity
- Constipation-related pressure on the bladder and/or bowels
- Weak or uncoordinated pelvic floor muscles
- Over strenuous toilet training
- Neurogenic Bladder
Pediatric pelvic floor therapists use techniques such as bladder retraining, behavioral modifications, pelvic floor muscle re-education, biofeedback therapy, manual therapy, and prescriptive therapeutic exercises to improve bladder control. Treatments are designed to be both educational and engaging for children, with active parental participation being crucial for success.
While pelvic floor therapy may improve challenges with potty training, we do not offer potty training services. If your child is autistic and you are experiencing challenges related to potty training, please contact us and we may be able to provide some more information.
