Sensory Integration refers to the process by which the brain receives, organizes, and interprets information from the senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell, body position, movement, and internal signals). Senses all work together to create experiences like eating, or coordination.
Some signs that your child may benefit from Sensory Integration Therapy include difficulty with transitions, aversion to certain textures or sounds, difficulty with social interactions, and delayed motor skills. We created a few age sorted tabs with screening questions to help illustrate if OT is appropriate for you!
Techniques used in Sensory Integration Therapy may include play-based activities, exercises to improve balance and coordination, and techniques to regulate sensory input.
