No, we're not career counselors. In our case, the word occupation is used to describe ANYTHING that occupies your time. Whether that's tying your shoes, cooking a meal, playing on the playground, going to the bathroom, riding in the car, or even climbing a mountain, we are here to help you access the activities that bring joy and purpose to your life.
Occupational therapists help people of all ages build the skills they need to live as independently as possible. Therapy is a team effort—goals are set together with clients and often their families, and progress is tracked over time.
For children, sessions are play-based and child-led, turning everyday activities into opportunities to practice skills like fine motor control, coordination, sensory processing, and self-care. For example, a therapist might use a cooking activity to strengthen hand coordination, a craft project to work on focus and dexterity, or an obstacle course to improve balance and planning. We've even taken our clients clamming!
For adults, therapy focuses on practical strategies that make daily life easier and more manageable. This could mean learning adaptive techniques for dressing, cooking, or managing household tasks, practicing work-related skills, or building strategies to improve memory, organization, or overall independence.
Families and caregivers play an important role, learning ways to reinforce skills at home, school, or work. By connecting therapy to real-life routines, occupational therapists help clients make meaningful, lasting improvements.
